Words Written Behind Words

What meaning we store,

In the words that fall from our mouthes. 

We should know better. 

Say goodbye, 

fragile smiles.

Wave to the happy thoughts and

the golden beams of light

that would leave my eyes,

and enter yours.

which indeed must be somewhere far.

or whispers

into your ear.

And then you shiver

but its not from his words it’s

from his hand wrapped so tightly around

your wrist that you know

plum colored skin will be there when you look next.

“I could love you,” he slips the words from

his mouth.

A snake!

A snake,

has wrapped itself around you.

Declaring love he could give with his pointed tongue and

ever tightening hold.

He could love you.

But he wont.

and shadows in white attack.

i believe what i see and i see what i know and

there’s gossamer on peoples backs.

You that if you wish hard enough,

Believed all that. When I was small,

of course. I believed that even mundane

things like shoe laces held magic.

I placed all my hopes                                               Upon

Things like pumpkins turning into

Coaches to whisk me away, and princes

Fighting through dragons to win one’s heart,

When the reality is that they’d barely lift

A finger to win access to one’s pants.                          A                                                                      

Little girl who didn’t realise that all

The fairy dust she was looking at was

Just dollar store glitter, and that by losing

Herself in these dreams she was just wasting                Time.

“you had a lot of crooks try and steal your heart,”

“and the silence scares me cause it screams the truth,”

Strange men, struggling to pay rent.”

Ashes to Ashes is how the rhyme goes.

An arrow in my heart straight through,

Then I turn into dust too.

 Then you even laugh at me

As my heart goes dark and tears seep.

Your hate

makes me hate

though I know its wrong

I shove my heart behind a door,

Where it  belongs.
